Website care vs redesign: when to choose which

How to decide between ongoing maintenance and a full redesign — signals, cost and risk for busy SMEs.

· Updated · Duyuz Editorial

Care when the structure still works

If messaging is clear, conversion paths exist and the CMS is maintainable, invest in speed, content refreshes, A/B copy and technical hygiene. Redesigning a site that mainly needs better CTAs is expensive theatre. Fix what measurement shows is broken first.

Redesign when the model changed

New services, brand, markets, or a template that cannot support booking, multilingual or ecommerce cleanly — those justify rebuild. Also redesign when mobile UX, accessibility or Core Web Vitals are structurally stuck. Patching a rotten foundation costs more each quarter.

Hybrid paths are common

Many teams ship a conversion-focused homepage and key service pages first, keep the rest on care, then phase the rest. Redirect planning and analytics continuity matter either way. Do not relaunch without knowing which URLs already earn leads.

Decide with commercial criteria

Ask: will this change increase enquiries or reduce ops risk in the next two quarters? Duyuz helps compare a care roadmap versus redesign scope so you spend on outcomes — not on a new look for its own sake.
