Methodology
On 2026-09-23 Duyuz requested each homepage on a disclosed list (30 URLs). Each request was one HTTP GET with a 8-second timeout and a 1.2 MB body cap. No browser, no JavaScript, and no PageSpeed Insights. A homepage counts toward n only when the response is HTTP 200 HTML and is not a domain-parking page. Signals: HTTPS on the final URL, a viewport meta tag, title length, H1 count, decoded HTML size, img elements, and the html lang attribute. “Outside the title band” means under 15 or over 65 characters. Heavy HTML means decoded homepage HTML over 500000 bytes, excluding later image, CSS and JavaScript files.
Sample definition
Six identifiable public businesses in each of Germany, the Netherlands, France, Denmark and Türkiye. The list includes specialty brands and some regional chains. Employee headcount was not verified. The list was not drawn from a business register. This is a Duyuz sample, not a census of European small businesses.
This run attempted 30 homepages. n=24 successful HTML measurements on 2026-09-23.
Limitations
- Duyuz sample, not a census. A percentage here is a share of this sample only.
- Headcount was not verified. Several names are specialty brands or regional chains.
- One homepage per business, no device emulation. Text that exists only after JavaScript runs is invisible here, so a missing H1 can mean the server HTML has no H1.
- Blocked requests, TLS failures, DNS failures, parking pages and responses over 1.2 MB are outside n.
- Core Web Vitals were not measured. This edition has no lab or field CWV scores.
